In the early 1960's, the ever increasing popularity of tennis, combined with the growing population of Baton Rouge, produced a need in the city for a private, first-class tennis and recreational facility. To meet that need, a foresighted group of businessmen and tennis players listed above incorporated the Bocage Racquet Club on May 24, 1965. We are indebted to the founders of the club and continue to honor their mission of providing a truly first-class facility as Bocage became, and remains, one of the finest tennis and social clubs in the South.
The club has twenty-two tennis courts, fitness center, pro shop, restaurant and bar, swimming pool, and clubhouse facilities in a social setting that reflects the warm, southern hospitality of the South. Since 1968 Bocage has been host to the Bocage Senior Invitational tennis tournament, a USTA Level II National Senior Championship that today offers prize money and attracts players from all over the country. Bocage has also been the recipient of the Outstanding Racquet Club of Louisiana Award because of its outstanding contributions to the Louisiana Tennis Association.
Whether its organized league play or just fun competition, Bocage is able to offer something for everyone. The year round Junior development program is designed to develop kids from beginners to tournament players while giving them the skills for a sport of a lifetime. Fun tournaments, club tournaments, and sanctioned tournaments offer varying degrees of competition. Bocage boasts one of the finest swimming facilities in the South and the swim program has over 150 kids participate annually. For those who choose to relax pool-side, the pavilion and snack bar offer the ideal setting for lazing through the summer hours.
Bocage is also a social club! Throughout the year special events include: crawfish boils, steak & lobster nights, pool parties, Friday Night Crawfish Boils in the spring and Friday Night Barbeques on the balcony during the summer, Guest Chef Nights, professional tennis exhibitions, and various theme parties. Dining at the club is a special treat for club members and their guests. Our menu is designed to appeal to the most discriminating palate.
