History

“Our mission is to provide personalized hospitality, exceptional facilities, and legendary tennis to our members, their families and guests.”

A Tradition of Excellence

On May 24, 1965 a foresighted group of businessmen and tennis players including Harry V. Barton, John C. Hamilton, Robert A. Leonard, William R. McGehee, Dr. M.J. Rathborne, Jr., Thomas P. Singletary, J. King Woolf, Jr., Dudley W. Coates, Jr., James W. Leake, Charles W. McCoy, Dr. William G. Palfrey, Frank P. Simoneaux, Dr. Roy White, and Charles H. Zeanah incorporated the Bocage Racquet Club to meet the need for a private, first-class tennis and recreational facility. We are indebted to the founders of the club and continue to honor their mission.

Bocage is a member owned club that features twenty HydroCourt clay tennis courts and two hard courts, fitness center, pro shop, restaurant and bar, swimming pool, and clubhouse facilities. Since 1968 Bocage has been host to a USTA National Senior Tennis tournament with prize money and attracts players from all over the country. Bocage has also been the recipient of the United States Tennis Association Outstanding Racquet Club of Louisiana Award.

In 1971 Bocage had 4 of the top 10 players in the world Rod Laver, John Newcomb, Cliff Drysdale, and Roy Emerson come for a special prize money tournament. Rod Laver beat Roy Emerson in the finals. John Newcomb was a 7 time grand slam champion, ranked number one in the world in 1971, and was also the Wimbledon champion that year. Rod Laver was an 11 time Grand Slam champion. Cliff Richey had 45 tournament titles in his career and Roy Emerson was a 12 time Grand Slam champion!

Whether its organized league play or just fun competition, Bocage has something for everyone. The year round Junior development program is for kids from beginners to tournament players. Fun tournaments, club tournaments, and sanctioned tournaments offer all levels of competition. Bocage has a junior Olympic and wading pool and a summer swim team program. Our poolside bar & grill the “shark shack” offers food and beverages for adults and kids.

Through out the year Bocage social events include: steak & lobster nights, pool parties, Friday Night Crawfish Boils in the spring and Friday Night Barbecues on the balcony during the summer, Guest Chef Nights, professional tennis exhibitions, and various theme parties all make club special place members and their guests.
